Letters to the Editor

On behalf of the organising committee of the 2016 Crookwell Garden Festival, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the many volunteers who gave of their time over the Festival week-end on November 5th and 6th last.

The success of the week-end was in no small part due to your valuable help. From manning the garden gates, selling tickets, preparing food and drink, putting up signs and many other tasks, your contribution was much appreciated. It became evident that the community spirit is alive and well in Crookwell.

While Crookwell Garden Festival benefitted directly from your help, the town as a whole ultimately benefitted with the influx of over a thousand visitors passing through the town, giving a boost to local businesses along the way.

In addition, a set of keys and a ring were handed in to the committee so please contact us if they belong to you. The winner of the Garden Lovers Market raffle was Marion Price and Katie Friend won the beautiful hand-painted cushions by Lesley Gartrell. Congratulations to the winners.

Yours sincerely, Lorna Vallely, President, Crookwell Garden Festival 2016 organising committee.

Men’s Sheds to benefitThe Turnbull Government is investing in the promotion and support of men’s health and wellbeing through yesterday’s announcement of funding towards nearly 100 Men’s Sheds across the country.

Minister for Health and Aged Care, Sussan Ley announced that 93 community Men’s Sheds across Australia will share in $400, 000 in national funding.

Minister Ley said the Men’s Shed programwas going from strength to strength and is providing support to Australian men in a way they feel comfortable with.

“Men’s Sheds are a popular way for men to connect with their community—whether it’s through a building project, a first aid workshop or a transition to retirement seminar,” Minister Ley said.

“In Men’s Sheds across the country there are any number of activities for men to take part in, which in turn, provides that important sense of belonging to a community, particularly for older men and men living in rural and remote areas.
